a few years back, while i was living in pennsylvania, i spent a handful of hours in our backyard arranging, tying together & hanging little twigs until they spelled out the words, “there’s no place like here.” it’s a mantra near & dear to my heart, & i sometimes need to remind myself of it. here is an important place to be. you are here. mentally, physically, emotionally—you are here. & you need to embrace the here-ness of every moment. don’t get caught up in the past. don’t get lost in the future. you are right here, right in the thick of the present moment, & it’s terribly easy to lose your connection with that. how easy it is to take each day for granted. how easy it is to fall prey to an everyday ho-hum attitude as you go about your daily routine.

i was at the pharmacy today, waiting in line for a medication i was hoping would make me feel better. the line was 10 deep, the pharmacists were racing behind the counter, trying to fill each prescription efficiently & accurately. & i swear to god i’ve never been surrounded by so many impatient, aggressive, angry, irritated, toxic “adults” in my entire life. instead of embracing the extra wait time as a blessing to just sit, breathe & be, they were near yelling at the pharmacists to “get it right”. & then there was the woman sitting in the waiting area, with her melodramatic sighs while muttering complaints under her breath. i wanted to walk over to her, look her in the eyes & say, “you’re alive, you’re here, you’re in this life & yet you’re exerting all your energy into waves of negativity that not only drown you, but choke those around you. breathe & let it be.”

so, today is about embracing the present moment. today is about being here.
