my favorite food secret…

okay, i’m going to share with you my favorite food secret…

hollyhock dressing.

my friend, matt, introduced me to hollyhock dressing when amber & i first moved into our apartment. it makes a fantastic salad dressing (try: finely chopped kale & chopped celery tossed with the dressing…*drool*), but what i’m addicted to… hollyhock on toast. amber & i eat so much toast with hollyhock that, at one point, the roofs of our mouths were all torn up from the coarse bread. seriously though. i’m a huge toast lover, usually opting for peanut butter or almond butter with honey, but this changed my life.

i also use it as a spread on veggie sandwiches. & i’m pretty sure it would make a great dip. & i dreamt up an h’orderves with a little hollyhock drizzled on top. i bet it would even be tasty drizzled on an avocado as an afternoon snack.

& now, for you, the recipe…

Hollyhock Dressing (aka: Nutritional Yeast Dressing)

Put into blender:

  • 1/2 cup nutritional yeast
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/3 cup tamari
  • 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2-3 cloves garlic

Blend until mixed well.

Then slowly add:

  • 1 1/2 cups canola oil. (you can also do part canola & part flax oil to get the extra nutrients that flax oil provides, but might be a little pricey to do ALL flax.)

I usually add a little bit at a time, blend for a few seconds, then add a little more & repeat until all the oil is blended in.

& THAT’S ALL! it’s so easy & it’s so delicious. after you’re done, just refrigerate & enjoy.
